Everyone deserves to be seen.

2020 is a big year for me. I got married in January to the best person in the world. SARS-Cov-2 showed up and completely erased my plans for my life financially. So, I guess you take the good with the bad.

I’ve embarked on a project to paint everyone around me as the crisis draws into relief everything I love and need. We need each other. Not in the way intended by platitudes about coming together, or leaning on me. None of our lives are possible without the people in them. That means EVERYONE.

So I’ll paint everyone. Or… everyone I have time and energy to see. Everyone deserves to be seen, whether it’s as you are in life, or as you want to be in your head.

So I’m opening up commissions for portraiture. Anyone can send me their portrait. Email it to joe@thejoejohnson.com and I’ll paint you. Sometime, someday, when I can get to it. And I’ll email you the full size image and you can do whatever you want with it.

If you want it now, you can pay me what you can. If you’re willing to wait, I promise I’ll get there eventually.

And if I get so many images of beautiful, wonderful people that I’ll never get to them all, well, that’s life, right? There’s never enough time for everyone and we do the best we can.

Here’s to the plague years and good art and helping everyone you can.
